Surrealism @ the YAM 2015
Surrealism was the basis for our annual Fifth Grade Art Show at the Yellowstone Art Museum this year. We viewed work from Salvador Dali and contemporary artist T.L. Solein, who recently exhibited in Billings. Students created a surrealist landscape showing background, middle ground, and foreground. They also wrote a brief paragraph about their work.
Cityscapes at Night
In this project, our class talked about the use of geometric vs. organic shapes, light, and reflection. We studied horizon line and skyline and looked at various urban architectural structures and cityscapes. Students were allowed to mix and match any number of well-known buildings in their own cityscapes as well as create futuristic or imaginary structures. Our beautiful night skies were blended with analogous colors and we learned to use the "resist" process to make our lights and reflections stand out.
