- Students from across Montana are invited to participate in the 2017 MDT Aeronautics Division Aviation Awareness Art Contest. The first-place winners in each grade category, K-5, 6-8, and 9-12, will be flown to Helena, with their parents, on May 5th for the awards ceremony at the State Capitol with Transportation Director, Mike Tooley, followed by a tour of the historic capitol building and lunch on Helena’s Last Chance Gulch. The winning artwork will be matted and framed.
- The contest is open to all students in grades K-12 in public, private, and home schools. The aviation-themed original artwork should be labeled with the student’s name, grade, school, and teacher’s name and phone contact. Entries must be post marked by April 15th, and may be mailed to Art Contest, Aeronautics Division, P.O. Box 200507, Helena, MT 59620-0507.
- Deadline for all submissions is April 15, 2017.
- Awards Ceremony to be held on May 5, 2017.

Fifth graders are currently beginning work on their upcoming exhibition at the YAM. Camera packets that include info on the project are being passed from student to student. Please join us at the reception for our 6th grade art show this Friday (Dec. 2nd) at the Western Heritage Center from 5-8 pm during the December Art Walk. Our show features pieces selected by the elementary art staff from each of the 6th grade classes in the Billings Public School District. Stop in and warm up with some cider and cookies and enjoy some great art! It's that time again! Our 5th grade art show is currently on display in the Young Artists Gallery at the Yellowstone Art Museum. All are invited to the reception for the show on Thursday, February 25th from 5-7 pm. Admission to the museum is free on that night and there will be refreshments for your enjoyment (YAY COOKIES & ART!!!). Come and check out some great student work, earn some extra credit, and tour the museum!
ART CLUB IS BACK!!!We will be starting our after school art program through Arts Without Boundaries again this year at both Newman and Orchard. Orchard's first session will run for four weeks in Nov/Dec. This session will be open to the first 30 fourth and fifth graders to turn in permission slips. Info and permission slips are being sent home this week! Art club at Orchard runs Wednesdays from 3:15-4:30 pm. Transportation home must be arranged for each student and noted on the returned permission slip. Dates for Orchard Session 1 are: Nov. 11, Nov. 18, Dec. 2, and Dec. 16. Both Newman and Orchard will start a second and third session after the holiday break. Stay tuned for more news!
Registration is now open for FREE summer ART classes over at Orchard Elementary. Ask Miss Heidner for details or check out the flyer and call and sign up! Space is limited so talk with your parents ASAP!
It's that time again! I am excited to announce our annual 4th grade art show at the new Billings Public Library! This will be the first year we get to utilize this great new space! We will be showing off a variety of pieces collected throughout the year. The show will be up Thursday, April 2nd through Sunday, April 14th.
Our reception will be on Thursday, April 9th from 5:00-7:00 pm. Come down to enjoy some cookies and juice and see some excellent artwork! Extra credit will be given if you can find the secret sign up sheet at the reception! Our annual 5th grade art show is now on display at the Yellowstone Art Museum downtown on 27th Street. The reception will be Thursday, February 19th from 5-7 pm. Admission is free on that day and there will also be juice and cookies. Bring your family and friends and enjoy an evening of art! Make sure to sign the extra credit sheet for Miss Heidner's class!
