SHOE SELF-PORTRAIT
How does a teacher get to know 500+ students in one hour a week? Self-portraits. I have always been fascinated with symbolism and the idea of an individuals "footprint" in our world. In this project, students were asked to brainstorm what makes them unique. They compiled a list of tidbits about themselves and then paired symbols with each fact. As a class, we looked at different styles of shoes and guessed what kind of person may be wearing them. The students picked a style of shoe and arranged their symbols to design a shoe composed out of unified symbols. Some of these shoes were displayed in the spring art show.
